Jharkhand State Bar Council is an autonomous body established and constituted in the Year 2005 under the provisions of Advocates' Act, 1961.

Jharkhand State Bar Council was originally part of Bar Council of Bihar. On reorganization of the State of Bihar and creation of the State of Jharkhand by the Bihar Reorganization Act, 2000, vide section 28 of the Bihar Reorganization Act, the word Jharkhand was added in section 3 (1) (a) of the Advocates' Act and a provision was made for a separate Bar Council for the State of Jharkhand. As per the provisions of the Advocates' Act, the Council is governed by 25 Advocates elected by Advocates of the state. Besides, the Advocate General of the state is an ex officio member.
