Medical Aid

Monetary assistance to Advocates to help them meet the costs of illness is provided by the Bar Council of India Welfare Committee for the State of Jharkhand. Currently, a maximum sum of Rs ten thousand is provided. Some serious cases are also referred to the Bar Council of India, Delhi for further payment.

Assistance under this scheme is provided from the fund collected from the Advocates of the state as subscription fee to the scheme. Every Advocate is bound to subscribe to this scheme for which he has to pay annual fee of Rs six hundred. However, it is difficult for Advocates to remember to pay the fee every year, and on delay substantial penalty is charged. Therefore, it is recommended that Advocates pay for lifetime subscription which is only Rs three thousand. If an Advocate does not pay the prescribed fee for this fund, it is considered a “misconduct”. He also looses his eligibility for any benefit under any welfare scheme of the Council. Further, they are also not permitted to vote to elect office bearers of their respective Associations and the members of the Bar Council. Payment is made by demand draft made payable to “Bar Council of India Welfare Committee for the State of Jharkhand”. The DD is to be made payable at Ranchi. A copy of the form to apply for medical aid by the aforesaid committee may be downloaded from the “Download” section of this website.
